About this tool
Free Tracking Checker answers one question: is your analytics actually working? Paste a URL and it reads the tracking code your pages already serve publicly, then reports eleven specific configuration problems — each with a concrete fix.
Who runs this
This is an independent tool operated by ToolConv. We are not affiliated with Google, and we do not have access to any Google account, property, or container.
Feedback, bug reports and security disclosures all go to a single monitored address: support@toolconv.com. Reports about a check being wrong are the most useful thing we receive, and we answer them.
What we do, and what we refuse to do
The distinction matters more than the feature list, so we will state it plainly.
The public HTML of the page you name, plus the same
gtag.js and gtm.js files any browser would download from it.
Anything behind a login. Your GA4 admin, your Tag Manager container internals, your server-side setup.
For a Google account, an OAuth grant, or access to your analytics property. There is no sign-in on this site at all.
Submitted HTML. It is analysed in memory and discarded. Results are cached five minutes to avoid refetching.
This is a constraint we chose, not a limitation we worked around. It has a real cost: because we cannot see past authentication, several checks confirm only that something is installed, never that it fires. We mark that boundary on every result page rather than hiding it behind confident phrasing.
How the checks work
Each of the eleven checks reads a specific, verifiable signal from your source code — an ID prefix, a script URL, a consent signal name, a viewport declaration. None of them guesses. When a check cannot determine something from the code, it returns a warning rather than a guess dressed up as a fact.
The score is a weighted average where severity matters more than count. Critical failures — the ones that silently corrupt data while leaving reports looking plausible — cap the total. The reasoning behind that design is explained on the scoring section of the home page.
| Check | Severity | What it catches |
|---|---|---|
| GA4 is installed | critical | Sites still running Universal Analytics, which has collected nothing since July 2023. |
| GA4 is not installed twice | critical | Double-firing tags that inflate conversions and corrupt Smart Bidding signals. |
| Consent Mode v2 signals | critical | Missing or partial v2 signals, which shrink remarketing audiences in the EEA. |
| Page is indexable | critical | Leftover googlebot noindex tags that remove a page from search entirely. |
| No dead UA code | high | Inert snippets that still download ~45 KB per page load. |
| Tag Manager and dataLayer | high | Containers installed without the dataLayer their triggers depend on. |
| Advertising pixels | high | Missing or idle pixels across Google, Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn and Microsoft. |
| Consent banner | medium | Consent platforms loading after the tags they are meant to gate. |
| Mobile viewport | medium | Fixed pixel widths that break layout and event firing on phones. |
| Server-side tracking | optional | Whether first-party loaders are in use to survive ad blockers. |
| Social sharing metadata | optional | Missing Open Graph and Twitter Card tags. |
Why we built it
Millions of sites still carry tracking code that stopped working two years ago. The snippet loads, the console stays clean, and the numbers freeze — which is easy to miss precisely because nothing looks broken. Meanwhile the tools that do catch it generally require signing into your Google account, and plenty of site owners either do not have that access or are not willing to grant it to a stranger.
This tool is for that gap: an answer you can get without permissions.
Editorial policy
Every check page states its own limitations. When a check will mislead you — because the signal is loaded dynamically, or lives behind a login, or can only be confirmed at runtime — that is written on the page rather than discovered later. We would rather show a warning than a clean-looking result we cannot stand behind.
Corrections are welcome. If you find a case we misclassify, tell us and we will fix the check rather than explain it away.
Independence

What this is not
- Not a penetration test or security audit.
- Not a compliance certification. It does not assess whether your consent flow is legally adequate.
- Not a replacement for GTM Preview or GA4 DebugView, both of which confirm actual delivery.
- Not professional advice. Verify findings in your own property before acting.
